Well well... I haven't reinstalled in a long time myself, but here she goes.
1. bitchx
2. ncftp
3. gkrellm2
4. pan
5. gnome-terminal
hmmm, but then again... it's hard to say because there is so much other stuff I install too
eterm, gimp1.2, enlightenment, gabber, mutt...
and, I download mozilla from mozilla.org or it'd be on the list |

Definitly BitchX
I don't like Mozzilla, but I love Opera
The Gimp looks cool, so I am going to add it and play with it....
What I am looking for will be a good program to mount dos partitions, so I can find my files |

as root, mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/win
that being if hda1 was your windows partition, and /mnt/win was a directory where you will mount your filesystem.
fdisk -ul /dev/hda will give you a listing of your paritions on your first hard disk (which is probably where your windows parition lives on a normal ide system)
mkdir /mnt/win to make the mount point for the parition.
you can also set all this up in your /etc/fstab, but that takes a little more work. (although not much). Also you'll need vfat support in your kernel, which should be there on the stock debian kernel.
